Come out and join the fun of Race Day! 

Getting around town on race weekend can be challenging so we’ve provided road closure information.

Initial Road closures will begin on Sunday morning, October 4th starting at 3:00 a.m. throughout Morgantown.

For Sunday, October 10th events (Marathon, Half Marathon and 8k), road closures will continue around the city through 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 10th

If you need to travel around the city on race day, see our “Getting Around Town” maps below. Please note, certain sections of the city will be completely closed off to traffic on race day. Anyone in these sections of the city that will need to leave during the race, should consider parking their car outside the area. 

Streets will re-open on a rolling basis once they have been deemed cleared by city officials. 

Mountain Mama 8K

Sunday, October 10th 2021

PLEASE NOTE
While roads here are marked as coned off or closed, Law Enforcement will be present to allow for residents and emergency vehicles to navigate as necessary.
You will NOT be locked inside your home or neighborhood for an entire weekend.

  • Patteson Drive Westbound Right lane by sidewalk closed to traffic from 0600 until approximately 1100 for Mountain Mama 8K – Coned off
  • Van Voorhis Southbound lane by sidewalk closed to traffic from 0600 until approximately 1100 for Mountain Mama 8K – Coned off
    • Burroughs Ave will be closed from 0630 to approximately 0930.
  • University Avenue from Mulberry Street to Drummond St. northwest lane will be closed from 0600 until approximately 1100 for Mountain Mama 8K. Northwest traffic will be detoured north on Jr. Ave, East on Legion St, South on Rebecca St, East on Rotary St., North on Collins Ferry Rd, East on Killarney Drive, South Back to Van Voorhis Dr. – Coned Off
  • There will also be numerous and frequent lane closures along the Marathon, Half Marathon & 8k routes, including closures on: Burroughs, Windsor, Drummond, Elmhurst, Rotary St, Cambridge Ave, Kenmoore St, Parkview Dr, Fairlawns Ave, Mulberry St, Baldwin St..

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when entering these roadways or making turns across the runners’ paths along these roadways.

  • Volunteers have graciously offered to help manage traffic flow under the direction of law enforcement personnel. Intersections have been identified by law enforcement for placement of said volunteers where no major traffic flow exists, nor are there traffic signals.

Morgantown Thirteener &
Morgantown Marathon

Sunday, October 10th 2021
7:00am-1:30PM

  • Patteson Drive Westbound Right lane by sidewalk closed to traffic from 0400 until approximately 1100 for Morgantown Thirteener and Tour Morgantown Full Marathon
  • Van Voorhis Southbound lane by sidewalk closed to traffic from 0400 until approximately 1100 for Morgantown Thirteener and Tour Morgantown Full Marathon
    • Van Voorhis Northbound lane to be coned off approx.. 200 feet from intersection directing traffic to left hand northbound lane to prevent traffic from turning right/east on 705 into runner’s lane. Law Enforcement will be in place to maintain traffic flow.
  • University Avenue from Drummond Street to Broadway St. southeast lane will be closed from 0400 until approximately 1100 for Morgantown Thirteener and Tour Morgantown Full Marathon
    • Traffic wanting to travel South on University will be detoured to Stafford Street by law enforcement personnel, allowing for traffic to continue towards Patteson.
  • Burroughs St. will be closed from 0400 until approximately 1030 for Morgantown Thirteener and Tour Morgantown Full Marathon. Law Enforcement will be in place to detour traffic, signage will be posted.
  • Collins Ferry Rd Northeast will be closed from 4AM until approximately 1030 for Morgantown Thirteener and Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Law enforcement will be in place to detour traffic, signage will be posted.
  • Van Voorhis Southbound right lane will be closed from 4AM until approximately 1030 from Killarney to 705 intersection, allowing for half marathon to turn west on Burroughs, while full marathoners cross intersection to enter east on 705 into far right eastbound lane. Traffic will be detoured to Hickory Lane, then to traffic light at Suburban Lanes – Law Enforcement will be in place to detour traffic at Killarney, as well as Van Voorhis/Burroughs.
  • 705 East bound far right lane will be closed from 0500 until approximately 1100 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off for the entirety.
  • Right turn lane on 705 West will be coned off at First Suncrest Town Center entrance, staying out of runners lane. Law enforcement personnel will be in place at red light to hold traffic while runners pass through, then allow vehicles to turn right into Suncrest Town Center.
  • 705 West Right turn lane onto Stewartstown road will be coned off, staying out of runners lane. Law enforcement personnel will be in place at red light to hold traffic while runners pass through, then allow vehicles to turn right onto Stewartstown Road
  • Stewartstown road north will be coned off on right hand lane, preventing westbound traffic on 705 that is turning from Stewartstown to enter runners lane. Law enforcement personnel will be in place at red light to hold traffic while runners pass through, then allow vehicles to turn right onto 705 in left lane only.
  • Right turning lane at Mileground Roundabout will be closed to traffic from approximately 0600 to 1100 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon.
    • Traffic wanting to turn right on Willey Street will be detoured North on the Mileground, then turn right on Hartman Run Road to Sabraton. Signage will be used, media has been informed. Posted on Website.
  • Willey Street Southbound lane will be closed from approximately 0600 to 1100 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon
    • Traffic wanting to turn right on Willey Street will be detoured North on the Mileground, then turn right on Hartman Run Road to Sabraton. Signage will be used, media has been informed. Posted on Website.
  • College Ave will be closed from 0600 to approximately 1100 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon. Law enforcement will be in place and signage used to prevent traffic flow and detour traffic.
  • University Ave to High Street will be maintained by law enforcement to Southbound traffic from 0700 to approximately 1130 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon. Coned off – Law enforcement will be in place and signage used to prevent traffic flow and detour traffic.
  • High Street left lane will be closed from 0600 to approximately 1130 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon. – Coned off, law enforcement will be in place on all interesctions on High Street to maintain traffic flow.
  • Pleasant St Northbound from High St., including Pleasant St. Bridge, and Grand St will be closed from 0700 to approximately 1130 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off, law enforcement will be in place on all interections to maintain traffic flow.
  • Dorsey Ave South from Wagner Rd. to Barrickman Rd will be closed from 0600 to approximately 1130 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off, law enforcement personnel will be in place to maintain traffic flow.
  • S Walnut St. Brockway Ave/Rt. 7 to Valley Crossing dropping down on Rail Trail will be closed from 0600 to approximately 1200 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off, law enforcement personnel will be in place to maintain traffic flow. Signage used.
  • Deckers Creek Blvd/Earl L Core Rd southbound right lane will be closed from 0600 to approximately 1230 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off, law enforcement personnel will be in place to maintain traffic flow.
  • Greenbag Rd West to Don Knotts Blvd will be closed from 0700 to approximately 1400 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off
    • Greenbag East will be open to one way traffic during this time. Traffic needing to travel to Don Knotts Blvd from Greenbag road will be detoured to Sabraton and asked to travel on I-68 West to University Ave exit 1. Law enforcement will be stationed for the entirety of Greenbag road to maintain safety and traffic flow. Signage will be used at both ends of Greenbag road to alert drivers of the one way traffic, law enforcement will be stationed at each end as well to reroute traffic as necessary. Churches and businesses have been alerted along the route.
  • Don Knotts Blvd/119 North west right lane to Morgantown Utility Board  will be closed from 0700 to approximately 1300 for Tour Morgantown Full Marathon – Coned off. Law enforcement personnel will be the intersection of Greenbag Road and Don Knotts Blvd, as well as placed on Don Knotts Blvd at Morgantown Utility Board to stop traffic both north and southbound, allowing for runners to cross Don Knotts Blvd and enter the Rail Trail. Law Enforcement will be present at 6th St. and Beechurst Ave, allowing for runners to exit the rail trail, entering Beechurst Ave on the south bound lane, keeping runners in the lane closest to the Seneca Center and PRT. Cones will be placed where the road goes to single lane heading southbound on Beechurst Ave, until just past 6th Street, forcing traffic to the center lane that is heading south. Once past 6th Street, traffic will flow as normal until Morgantown Utility Board on Don Beechurst Ave just before Greenbag road. Law enforcement will be at red light maintaining traffic as runners pass through into Coliseum lot.
  • There will also be numerous and frequent lane closures along the Marathon, Half Marathon & 8k routes, including closures/delays on: Burroughs, Windsor, Drummond, Elmhurst, Rotary St, Cambridge Ave, Kenmoore St, Parkview Dr, Fairlawns Ave, Mulberry St, Broadway, Jr. Ave, Aspen, Greendale, Woodland Dr, Eastern, Dogwood Ave, Wilson Ave, Allison St, Wagner Rd, Waitman St, Simpson St, Euclid Ave, Washington St, Kingwood St, Cobun Ave, S Walnut St, Eljadid St, Mississippi St, East Pkwy, Hite St, Madigan Ave,.Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when entering these roadways or making turns across the runners’ paths along these roadways. Law enforcement, National Guard, or volunteers designated by law enforcement will be in place at spots designated by law enforcement.
